What Storytrace is

Storytrace is a growing collection of written investigations into the origins of everyday things. It is a work of popular history, researched and written for general readers. It is not an academic source and should not be cited as one.

We take accuracy seriously — correcting widely believed errors is the entire point of the app. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will fix it.

What is free

The whole archive, forever, browsable in any order. What is limited is how much you read in a day: five chapters, counted in hearts. Opening a chapter costs a heart, and so does a quiz round finished below the pass mark. They come back the next day. No trial period, no payment details required.

Everything else in the app is free too, and stays free: the cards you earn, sharing them, your investigator badge, the Cold Case review, and the daily reminder.

Storytrace Pro

The whole archive is free to browse, in any order, forever. What the free tier limits is how much you can read in a day: five chapters, counted in hearts, and a quiz round below the pass mark costs one of them.

Storytrace Pro removes that limit, and that is the only thing it changes:

Three plans: monthly, yearly, or a single payment for lifetime access. Prices are set per country by Google Play and the Apple App Store, so they differ from one place to another. The exact amount, in your own currency, is shown on the purchase screen before you confirm — that is the one the store charges, and no other figure on this page overrides it.

Billing, renewal, and cancellation are handled by Google Play or the Apple App Store, under their terms. The monthly and yearly plans renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time from your store account; cancellation stops the next renewal and does not refund the current period. Lifetime access is a one-time purchase — it never renews, so there is nothing to cancel. Refunds are governed by the store's policy, not ours.

Prices may change. If they do, the change applies only to renewals after we have told you, and never retroactively.

Your progress

Your progress lives on your device, not on our servers. If you change phones, uninstall the app, or clear its data, that progress is gone and we cannot restore it — we never had a copy. Your Pro subscription, however, is tied to your store account and follows you to a new device.

What you may do with the content

Share the cards. That is what they are for. Post them, send them, use them in a story — that is a normal, encouraged use.

Do not republish the investigations wholesale, translate them, or use them to build a competing product. The text, the cards, the illustrations, the name Storytrace and its logo belong to us.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to circumvent the daily limit or the subscription, decompile the app, or interfere with it. We may end access in cases of clear abuse.

No warranty

Storytrace is provided as is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law in your country — in particular, statutory rights in the United States and Canada remain untouched.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them.
